Introducing Willy the Wonder, a tiny 6 pound dachshund, 12 year old boy who spreads joy where ever he goes with a wink and a cuddle. Willy was born with one eye but this doesn’t slow him down one bit! Willy loves car rides and going for walks on his leash. Willy enjoys the company of other dogs but would be best in a home without cats. Willy has not been tested with children. Willy is crate trained. He is so well trained with a potty pad that he will roll it up after he uses it so as not to have soiled conditions in the area he is in! What a GOOD boy! Willie will go to the bathroom outside, but he needs to be reminded every 2 hours that it is time to go. He much prefers potty pads. Like all dachshunds he will need to be confident in his environment to have good potty habits. All rescue dogs go thru a period of adjustment so understanding and patience. Willy really likes food and will try and steal food from his foster siblings and can be a bit cranky about food at times. Willy sleeps in his own area in his foster home in Florida because he will torment the kitty of the house, but he would love to sleep in a big bed with his person Willy is a cuddly boy who would like his own personal lap. Are you going to be the lucky one to open your arms and welcome him home?

Mr Toots is delightful, endearing 14 year old, 12 pound of senior dachshund boy who is a strong alpha boy and likes everyone to remember that he runs the show! Toots is crate trained and leash trained. He tolerates car rides well and has never gotten car sick on his occasional trip out of the yard or house. Toots likes to sleep in his crate and night and enjoys his own me time. Toots is a fussy eater and likes soft food, or better yet HUMAN food! His preference may be due to his limited number of teeth - about 4. His foster mom, in Texas, feeds him a bit of hard food mixed in with his soft food. Toots would do best in a somewhere he is the only dog or there is only one other dog. He doesn’t like dogs that are bigger than him as he knows he is the biggest bravest dog that there is! He does fine with dogs his size or smaller than he is and does well with kitties who do not try and challenge his ‘Toots authority’. Toots is not house trained but is used to wearing a belly band and does need to be watched for signs of when he needs to go to the bathroom. Toots has some very normal geriatric vision lost with a milk appearance to his eyes. This gruff old guy has made his way into his foster family’s hearts, and we know you would love him too! He is a special guy who is looking for a retirement home and some wonderful people to do what he wants them to do! Why not apply today and show Toots that senior dogs deserve all the love and devotion that we can give them?

Hayden is a handsome 22 pound standard dapple dachshund who is 13 years old. Standard dachshunds are getting very difficult to find and they are well known for their calm, gentle demeanour. Hayden is blind but copes very well in a consistent environment. He will follow your voice and any tapping sounds on walls and floors and make his way to you because he just loves EVERYONE! Hayden is wonderful with children and doesn't bother kitties. Hayden is submissive towards other dogs and would not do well in a home with another dog who likes to engage in rough play. Hayden is comfortable where ever he is and doesn't display any anxiety. In his wonderful foster home in Texas, Hayden sleeps on a pillow on the floor beside the big bed because his foster mom doesn't want him to fall out of bed, however, Hayden loves to get on the bed and have special loves and cuddles. Hayden enjoys car rides and like most dachshunds he loves a good tummy rub. He isn't a fussy eater and enjoys his food. Hayden's favorite treat is tomatoes! Hayden is pee pad trained but does not ask to go outside. He will have have accidents in his crate if left for extended periods. Hayden is a very special boy. Standard dachshunds are getting hard to come by and this very special boy is going to bring joy to someone's heart. Are you the lucky one who will open their arms and heart to Hayden?

Rocky and Brownie are a bonded pair of happy, calm senior dachshunds looking for a forever home. Rocky is a spry 15 year old boy and Brownie is his 10 year old companion. Rocky and Brownie spend their days enjoying life in their foster home in North Carolina. They spend a lot of time sleeping and snuggling together. The ultimate in lap dogs, they follow their foster mom everywhere she goes and seize every opportunity for a snuggle and some loves. Rocky will jump on a lap the moment he has a chance! Brownie doesn't always want to be on his fosters lap but if you DARE leave the room without him he will BARK BARK BARK until his person comes back! Rocky and Brownie sleep in the big bed and they would like a home where they can continue to enjoy big bed privileges. Brownie and Rocky have a ramp to get into the big bed, but being a dachshund, Brownie is a wee bit stubborn and refuses to try it. Instead, he barks at the top of his lungs until his foster mom picks him up and puts him in his very special BIG bed. Rocky and Brownie love a car ride and enjoy taking trips with their people. They are crate trained but would rather not be in one and will complain if they are locked up. Rocky and Brownie do well with other dogs but are not tested with kitties or young children. Rocky and Brownie do well with their house training if they are kept on a regular schedule but like most dachshunds will have accidents if not put outside regularly. Like all dachshunds they need to be confident in their environment to have good potty habits. All rescue dogs go thru a period of adjustment so understanding and patience is important. It is important that their new family be in the habit of going outside every 2 hours or so. A pair of dachshunds to love! What could be better? Apply today to adopt Rocky and Brownie!

Say hello to Mama! She is 12 years old and weighs about 15 pounds. Mama is sweet, playful and a true cuddle bug! She is crate trained and when it is time to go in her crate she gets right in because she knows she's getting a treat! Like many dachshunds she can be a bit stubborn when it comes to leash walking. She doesn't like to go far but loves to sniff all the new smells! Mama is 99% house trained but will have an occasional potty accident when she hasn't spent enough time outside. Like all dachshunds she will need to be confident in her environment to have good potty habits. All rescue dogs go thru a period of adjustment so understanding and patience is important. She does not bark or go to door to be let out so it is important her new family helps her become in the habit of going outside every 2 hours or so. Mama does well with children of all ages and small dogs. Mama seems a bit uncomfortable with large dogs getting too close to her so she would do best in a home with dogs close to her own size. Mama has not been cat tested, however, her foster mom believes that doesn't have a high prey drive and this would likely mean she would do well with a kitty. Like most seniors she gets an A+ in sleeping. When she's not taking a snooze she enjoys chasing after squeaky toys and chewing on elk horns and being a happy girl in her foster home in Maryland. Mama doesn't seem once particularly submissive or dominate but has let  her foster fursister know she doesn't want to play by barking at her. Like many dachshunds she is pretty independent but will occasionally cuddle with her fursister.  Mama loves to be covered in blankets and sleeping in the big bed. She would love a forever home where she can continue with her big bed privileges. She does very well on car rides and would make a great travel buddy!  Mama came to GetALong Dachshund Rescue with dry eyes and/or allergies. She has been taking medication which  helps with her runny eyes and itching. She has a slight thyroid problem and takes a small dose of medication daily. Mama is a charming lady and is looking for someone special to love. Apply to adopt Mama today!

Frida has joined the GDR family and is looking for a retirement home. Frida is a 14 year old, 16 pound blind senior girl. Frida enjoys her alone time, but does love to give kisses and cuddles. Unlike most doxies, she likes to sleep in her very own bed in the kitchen. No big bed for this girl! Frida especially loves to sleep in a BIG dog bed because she is the princess and deserves that wonderful big dog bed! Frida is uncomfortable in a crate and will cry and fuss until she is let out. Frida is a quiet, loving girl, is leashed trained, does well on car rides and enjoys a calm quiet cuddle. Because of her vision and hearing impairment Frida needs a life with routine so she can feel safe and secure. Frida is very gentle and loving. Frida loves a blankie to cuddle in and enjoys a soft loving cuddle spot. Frida, like many seniors, likes her dry food mixed with some canned food. Frida LOVES to chew a bone and it makes her so happy just to enjoy a GREAT bone! Frida is a sweet old girl and sometimes she has some potty accidents. A routine is crucial to successful doxie housetraining. Frida would like a home where she could be the only dog or have one other doggy pal. She does well with cats and respectful children. Frida would love to have a person who would devote themselves to being ‘hers’ so that she could develop that special doxie / person bond This super senior girl is waiting for her forever home. Will you be the one that opens your heart and offers her that love?

Meet beautiful Summer. Summer is a happy healthy young senior girl. We are unsure of Summer’s age having been originally told that she was 14 when she came into our rescue. Summer is younger than 14 and we believer her age to be somewhere between 8 - 10 years of age. Summer is a teeny tiny girl of only 10 pounds who is a super cuddle bug! Summer gets along well with children, other dogs and kitties too! She does very well on a leash and seems to do well in a car as well. Summer is a submissive little girl who loves to be cuddled and hugged. She loves to sleep on your lap and sleeps in the big bed in her foster home in Alabama. Summer would like a home where she could continue to enjoy the love that comes from sleeping in the big bed. Summer is crate trained and house trained but like all dachshunds she will need to be confident in her environment to have good potty habits. Mia is a spunky young lady who is looking for a forever home. Mia is 2 years old and weighs 13 pounds. Mia is a wire haired dachshund mix girl who is looking for a home to help her become a wonderful adult. Mia is still a puppy and needs to continue to work on her adult dog manners and training. Mia is a bouncy girl and will bounce over gates and try and jump up on people. She is such a friendly, loving girl! Mia sleeps in the big bed with her foster mom in Florida and she would like a home that would let her have big bed privileges. Mia gets along well with dogs and cats and respectful children 10 years of age and older. Mia will try and ‘steal’ treats from the other dogs in her foster home, and needs to continue to work on her puppy manners. Mia is working on her leash training and in a car it is best if she is seat belted or in a crate as she will jump and could be distracting to a driver. Mia is working on her house training but she is a puppy and does have accidents sometimes. All puppies need consistent regular schedules to become successfully house trained. Mia is a lovely spunky little girl who needs a home who has the time to devote to her to help her become a happy healthy well developed adult. Clark has joined the GetALong Dachshund Rescue family while he waits for his forever home. Clark is a handsome 13 year old boy who weighs 14 pounds and is safe in a loving foster home in Texas. Clark is a submissive boy who is blind and mostly deaf. He would like a home that will give him love and assurance. Clark loves to sleep in his own dog bed but also likes a good snuggle too. Despite his vision loss, Clark is an independent boy and does very in most situations. When Clark came into rescue he was emaciated and his health had been neglected. His teeth were in terrible condition, and he has had to have most of them removed. He also has a fistula (hole) in his mouth that should be monitored for food stuck in tit. Surprisingly, Clark still seems to be able to eat anything his little heart desires with no problems. Clark is house trained and will ask to go outside when he needs to but like all dachshunds he will need to be confident in his environment to have good potty habits. All rescue dogs go thru a period of adjustment so understanding and patience is important. Clark likes other dogs and would do well in home with children 13 years or older who understand the need to be gentle with him. Clark is a talker! Little moans and and grunts to let his foster mom know he needs help or wants some love! Clark knows how to get what he needs. This happy senior fellow is searching for a home to spend his retirement years in. Wouldn’t you love to have this charming dachshund join your family?

Hey there! My name is Annabelle. I am a spunky, older lady. I am about 12 years old and I weigh 14 pounds but I have plenty of energy and spunk left! I mean, heck, I was found and taken in by a vet’s office because I was out playing in traffic even though my back legs didn’t work! It’s all good now though. They took me into the office and I hadn’t been hit by a car or anything. Even without full leg function I was too spry for that! I just had a little bout of IVDD like a lot of my Dachshund friends. With some time and care I was back up and running in no time. You might still notice a little hitch in my step, but I get around just fine. I do need to live somewhere I don’t have to deal with stairs though. I should never jump on or off of furniture either. That would really help me a lot! It would be better if I wasn’t in a home with small children either. Oh, I also don’t have any teeth. Jealous? Doesn’t slow my eating down any, I promise you that! My foster family wets my kibble to make it easier for me to eat. Man do I have them trained… Teeth or no teeth one of my favorite things to do is chew on this deer antler at my foster family’s house. Feels great! I don’t mind if you humans take my antler (or my food) but I do NOT like my foster brothers and sisters to try it. IT’S MINE! I don’t care if I have teeth or not my little rambunctious foster brother… I shall challenge you to a duel! Of course, this means I do fine with other dogs, but I do have to be watched if there’s food or treats or a dog bed I really like laying around. I will claim them and I’ll let all the other dogs know! I do GRRRR sometimes at my foster kitty sibling but she walks off and ignores silly me. Yeah I can be a little dominant, especially with other dominant ladies, but I do like the boys, unless they’re trying to take my food. Just sayin’ that’s off limits fellas. I would like home where there are boy doggies or a girl who isn’t bossy like I am. I am getting better at letting my foster family know when I need to go outside. Like all dachshunds I need to be confident in my home to have good potty habits. All us rescue dogs go thru a period of adjustment so please be understanding and patient with me? I am great in my crate. I love my crate! Again, I have this family so wrapped around my finger. I have my own orthopaedic bed in my crate, with some blankets. It’s no wonder I don’t want anyone else to go in there! I do like sleeping in the big bed of course, but I do just fine in my own space as long as I know where my family is! I am quite happy that way. I love to just hang out on my dog bed under a blanket while you watch TV. Well, unless you’re having pizza. If I smell pizza it’s like I can’t help myself. I’m going to ask you for some of it. I am going to bounce around, whine, scratch at your leg, and generally do what it takes to get some of the yummy stuff! Anyway, I’m happy to hang out with my foster family for a while. They’re pretty cool, but I would love a place of my own. Interested in hooking an old lady up? I promise I’m entertaining! Love Annabelle Annabelle absolutely a sweetheart. She loves people and she’s a little clown. She shows off when new people come over. Loves to roll on her back on the carpet while grunting at everyone. This wonderful girl is just waiting for a chance for a forever home in her foster home in North Carolina. Is she the one for you ?

GetALong Dachshund Rescue is proud to present Hollie. This sweet girl is 12 years old, spunky, and yet easy going. A perfect 13 pound little gal who finds joy in everything, she is very sweet, gentle, well behaved. Hollie is house trained but like all dachshunds she will need to be confident in her environment to have good potty habits. All rescue dogs go thru a period of adjustment so understanding and patience is important. Hollie came into rescue while undergoing an episode of IVDD, and although well recovered, it is important that Hollie not be allowed to jump off and on furniture nor use stairs. Hollie is perfectly fine having limited (but monitored!) run of the house for a few hours a day, but it is best she be confined to an area with carpeting so she won't slip or in a crate. Hollie loves being walked, and gets VERY excited about sniffing things and exploring her environment. She is crate trained, and LOVES her crate (with her toys) Hollie gets along fine with other dogs and cats but people are her favourite companions and cuddle mates. Hollie knows a few basic commands and will ‘sit’ on command. This beautiful senior girl is searching for a home to spend her days with love and joy. She is waiting just for you!

Casey is a happy laid back 12 year old, 13 pound senior girl looking for a quiet forever home. Casey likes other dogs but does keep to herself and likes to sleep on a nice pillow. She LOVES to eat and needs to be fed only at meal time. She will grrrrr a little bit if another dog approaches her food dish so it would be best to feed her apart from any other dogs in the home. Casey is crate trained and dog door trained. She is house trained, but does not seem to like to go potty on the grass. Like all dachshunds she will need to be confident in her environment to have good potty habits. All rescue dogs go thru a period of adjustment so understanding and patience is important. Casey is a very quiet girl. She enjoys a warm lap and very much likes men. She has not been cat tested but her foster mom thinks she would ignore them. She is not interested in toys. This sweet girl would just love to be in loving arms and a warm bed. Currently in a wonderful foster home in Alabama, she is waiting. Won’t you make her dreams come true?

Mandy is a ten year standard sized lady going on five. A wonder black and tan standard dachshund she is weighs approximately 23 pounds. She is active for an older gal. She loves having toys and playing ball from time to time. She is not fond of giving her toys back though, so don't ask! Ha! Mandy's all time favorite activity is lounging on the recliner with a human. Miss Mandy won't get up on the recliner if you don't sit down, so take a load off and relaaax. Mandy is crate trained. A clever girl, she knows the word 'bed' and gladly will go to her crate. She will sleep 8-10 hours at night. During the day she goes through not one, but two doggie doors to go potty. She has never had an accident in her foster home in Alabama. She is currently cohabiting with 3 other dachshunds. She has not been cat tested and is a great watch dog. Ask UPS! Mandy walks well on a leash and is a great car rider. Due to her diet of special dog food, Mandy is fed separately. During the day she likes to follow her foster mom from room to room until she wears herself out and heads for a nap. Mandy would prefer to be homed with older children that would be gentle and not steal her toys. Mandy would love to join you on the recliner and become your permanent leg warmer. Apply today!
